HYMNS and SONGS A - D
It must be no coincidence that three of the most popular funeral hymns and songs start with the letter A:
The fourth "A" in the group is All things bright and beautiful, probably the most popular hymn of all. Do bear in mind you don't have to sing all the words, otherwise it can turn into an 8-verse marathon! There's also a superb alternative arrangement by John Rutter - check it out below.
In the "C" section is one of the most frequently-heard recorded songs, "Time to say goodbye" (Con te partiro), as recorded by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. Many operatically-trained funeral singers sing this, usually with a backing track as it's really not suitable for the organ (and difficult to play!). Sung live as a solo, it's even more thrilling than on the recording, as that top note rings out at the end and seems to hang in the air forever.
- Abide with Me
- Amazing Grace
- Ave Maria
