HYMNS and SONGS E - H

The G section takes the glory on this page with the wonderful hymn "Guide me, o thou great Redeemer" otherwise known as "Bread of Heaven" or "Cwm Rhondda", a very popular choice for Welsh funerals.

From the world of spirituals comes the evocative "Goin' Home", and from true English church tradition the deceptively simple "God be in my head", often sung as a solo or choir anthem.

"How great thou art" is a classic example of a great hymn that is often played in too low a key for the congregation to sing properly - unless you come from a family of baritones! We make a plea right now for organists to play this one a little higher, and help preserve the nation's vocal chords…
